About us

das Shining is a Germany-based media art collective founded by Timo Dufner, Mathias Schlenker and Jens Schindel. Working across different cities and disciplines, the collective explores the intersections of art, technology and human perception.
Their artistic practice focuses on interactive installations, generative visuals and audiovisual performances. By combining experimental hardware, real-time processing, machine learning and unconventional approaches to software, das Shining creates environments in which technology becomes both a medium and an active participant in the creative process. Glitches, unpredictability and the interaction between audience and artwork are essential elements of their work.

Recent projects have taken the collective to international festivals and exhibitions, including Fusion Festival 2026, Garbicz Festival 2025 and 2026, RENDR Festival 2026 in Belfast and LPM – Live Performers Meeting 2026 in Rome. At Fusion and Garbicz, their interactive laser installation You Are the Line transformed visitors‘ movements into drawings of light, while Slitscan explored the relationship between time, movement and visual perception. At LPM 2026, members of the collective contributed audiovisual performances and supported other artists through technical collaboration.
Beyond these festivals, das Shining has developed interactive visuals for theatre and opera productions, contributed to exhibitions and international artistic collaborations, and supported the technical realisation of events such as the GENERATE! Festival for Electronic Arts in 2019.
At the heart of their work is a simple idea: art should not merely be observed, but experienced, questioned and transformed by those who encounter it. Each project is an experiment in the relationship between humans and machines, where technology provides the framework, but the unexpected gives the work its character.
